Skin on DVD in October

5 September

Oscar nominee Sophie Okonedo (The Secret Life of Bees, Hotel Rwanda) stars as Sandra Laing, a young woman struggling to grow up and find her place under the racist apartheid system. Born to white parents Abraham (Sam Neill – The Piano, The Horse Whisperer) and Sannie (Alice Krige – Deadwood, Chariots of Fire), Sandra stands astride two worlds. Despite her parents' support of racist social policy, their love for Sandra shows as they fight persistent rumours of illegal infidelity, and launch a court action to have Sandra re-classified from coloured to white.

Admitted to the white world Sandra is subject to constant stares, whispers and schoolroom bullying. Despite her parents' conviction that all that matters is love for their daughter, their peaceful family life can only last so long. When Sandra falls for Petrus (Tony Kgoroge – Blood Diamond, Lord Of War) a black vegetable vendor, she is forced to choose between the love of her family and life with her lover.

Skin, the multi-award winning feature film debut from Anthony Fabian, is complex story of a woman marginalised by her own existence and her struggle to reconcile her heritage and find acceptance in a society torn by race and politics.

Skin will be released on UK DVD on 5th October 2009 by ICA Films at the RRP of £12.99. Unconfirmed at present, the rumoured extra features are:

  • Making-of featurette;
  • Deleted Scenes;
  • Script Workshop.
