Alambrista! in September

4 September 2008

Domingo Ambriz stars as Roberto, who after the birth of his first child is convinced that the only way he can support his family is to illegally cross the border to the United States and fulfill his American Dream. However, when Roberto eventually makes it to the United States his aspirations of finding work are shattered with the reality of the shocking exploitation of Mexican immigrants.

Winner of the Camera d'Or at the 1978 Cannes Film Festival and two gongs at the San Sebastián Film Festival, Alambrista! (also known as The Illegal) is a groundbreaking study of social persecution in the US and was described by the New York Times as "a small, gentle, beautifully made film about a subject that might, in more conventional hands, have received either harsher or more histrionic treatment.' It marked a striking directorial feature debut for Robert M. Young, who also directed the powerful prison drama Short Eyes (which is receiving a simultaneous DVD release from Metrodome in the UK) the same year.

Alambrista! is to be released on UK DVD by Metrodome on 22nd September 2008 at the RRP of £15.99. No technical specs or details of any extras have been supplied as yet.
