Unrelated in February

7 January 2008

Unrelated, the remarkable debut feature from Joanna Hogg (previously a director on TV shows such as Eastenders and Casualty, tells the story of Anna (played by Kathryn Worth) who, childless and in a deteriorating marriage, feels condemned to life on the periphery of events. A summer holiday in Italy with the family of an old school friend becomes a reminder of the life she has not lived. She finds herself amongst a large and messy family group which puts her loneliness and awkwardness into relief. Sexual tensions simmer and Anna believes she may have found a chance...

Having won the Fipresci International Critics Award at the 2007 London Film Festival, Unrelated has since attracted widespread acclaim from critics and public alike, described by Dave Calhoun in Time Out as "a surprising, sensitive and compelling study of upper middle-class mores and middle-age hang-ups," while Jonathan Romney in the Independent assured us that "in its quiet, controlled way, Unrelated is devastating stuff."

The cast includes Mary Roscoe as Anna's friend Verena, while her son is played by Tom Hiddleston, who won the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Newcomer in 2008 for a Cheek by Jowl production of Cymbeline and was also nominated for the same award for his role as Cassio in Michael Grandage's admired production of Othello at the Donmar Warehouse. He has recently starred in Ivanov alongside Kenneth Branagh.

Unrelated will be released on UK DVD on 2nd February 2008 by New Wave Films at the RRP of £19.99. The disc features an anamorphic widescreen transfer, optional Dolby stereo 2.0 and surround 5.1 soundtracks and includes a 25-minute interview with director Joanna Hogg.
