Electra Glide in Blue in June

6 April 2009

John Wintergreen (Robert Blake) is a pint-sized Arizona cop who is tired of riding around on a motorcycle and dreams of becoming a detective and riding in a patrol car. He gets his chance when he and his partner, Zipper Davis (Billy "Green" Bush), find a prospector dead in his shack – it looks like suicide, but Wintergreen thinks it's murder. The autopsy proves him right, and he is assigned to work with detective Harve Poole (Mitchell Ryan), through whom Wintergreen is introduced to paranoia, senseless violence, and corruption. His illusions shattered, Wintergreen is busted back down to motorcycle cop when he inadvertently learns of his superior's sexual problems. But back on the road, will Wintergreen find that he can return to the simpler world he once knew and tried so hard to escape?

Electra Glide in Blue is a genuine 1970s cult favourite and with good reason, one of the best of the post-Easy Rider school of laid-back American genre-busting cool, one that landed director James William Guercio nominations for Best Dramatic Feature at the Golden Globes and the Palme D'Or at Cannes.

Electra Glide in Blue gets its long-awaited UK DVD premiere on 22nd June 2009 from Optimum Home Entertainment at the RRP of £15.99. Particularly good news is that this will not be a movie only disc, but will have the following extras:

  • Introduction by director James William Guercio;
  • Commentary by director James William Guercio;
  • Trailers.
