Moonlight Sonata in May

6 May 2009

Internationally renowned concert pianist Jan Ignace Paderweski stars as himself in the 1937 British musical drama Moonlight Sonata, released in the USA as The Charmer and directed by Lothar Mendes, the man behind the 1934 reversal-of-attitude version of Jew Süss designed to attack German anti semitism.

In Moonlight Sonata, a plane carrying Paderweski is forced to make an emergency landing in Sweden and the stranded passengers shelter at the estate of the beautiful Baroness Lindenborg. Though one of the passengers, the smooth-talking Mario de la Costa, sweeps her off her feet, the art of Paderewski touches all who are present – and allows the young Baroness to reflect upon where her true feelings really lie...

Paderewski is both seen and heard as himself in this entrancing musical drama from 1937. While the film opens with a concert recital of Chopin's 'Polonaise' and features Paderewski's own 'Minuet in G Major', a spellbinding performance of Beethoven's famous sonata brings the drama to its conclusion.

Mppnlight Sonata will be released on UK DVD on 25th May 2009 by Network Releasing at the RRP of £12.99. No extras are listed.
