Carrington V.C. in May

6 May 2009

David Niven plays Charles 'Copper' Carrington, a British Army Major and war hero promoted to higher rank during peacetime. Compelled to use his own money for his expense account, he finds himself owed a substantial amount by The War Office, who are somewhat slow in paying up. Carrington becomes convinced that he will never see his money again and so, witnessing himself descend into serious financial problems, he is forced to take drastic action.

Niven brings his trademark charm to this role but also a warmth and humanity that earned him a BAFTA nomination alongside one for his co-star Margaret Leighton, who plays Carrington's embittered shrew of a wife. Based on the smash-hit West End play by Dorothy and Campbell Christie and directed by legendary British director Anthony Asquith (The Way to the Stars, The Winslow Boy, The Browning Version), Carrington V.C. earned five BAFTA nominations in total and a reputation as one of the best British films of the 1950s.

Carrington V.C. will be released on UK DVD on 25th May 2009 by Network Releasing at the RRP of £12.99. No extras are listed.
