Just Like the Son and Lucky Bastard on DVD in February

4 January 2010

Eureka Entertainment, renowned for its distribution of Classic Cinema and Art-house titles and a favourite here for the Masters of Cinema series, is expanding its third party sales and distribution business in 2010.

First to join will be Australian label, Bounty Entertainment whose first releases will be the highly acclaimed road movie Just Like the Son and the gay interest film Lucky Bastard. Sales Director Ian Sadler said "we have a really solid team at Eureka and there is a lot of scope for development. As our own product is often of a highly specialised nature, we have the opportunity to work with distributed labels with no conflict of interest. We are actively seeking labels that complement our existing product range. The deal with Bounty will hopefully be the first of many."

Just Like the Son (2006)

Recalling the great dramatic road films of the 1970s while exhibiting a definitely new-century attitude, the warm hearted, poignant and totally engaging Just Like the Son, from writer-director Morgan J. Freeman (Hurricane Streets, TV's Dawson's Creek), gives voice to a thrilling new talent on the independent movie scene.

Told with equal parts eloquence and passion, the story follows 20-year-old Daniel Carter (Mark Webber, Shrink and the upcoming Scott Pilgrim vs. The World), a petty thief performing community service at a Greenwich Village elementary school. There, he befriends eight-year-old Boone (Antonio 'A.J.' Ortiz). When Boone's mother is taken ill and the youth is sent away to a foster school, Daniel "rescues" him and together they set out on a road trip – funded partly by shoplifting and burglary – in which friendship, redemption and adventure are all within one's grasp.

Co-starring Rosie Perez (Fearless, Pineapple Express) as the school principal, Just Like the Son's story of two outcasts searching for identity resonates with heart, warmth, humour and hope as its touching tale of fraternity and sacrifice unfolds in poetic and unsentimental fashion.

Just Like the Son will be released on DVD on 22nd February 2010 by Bounty Films and distributed in the UK by Eureka Entertainment at the RRP of £12.99. The disc will have the following special features:

  • Making-of featurette;
  • Cast interviews;
  • Original Trailer;
  • Director's Statement.

Lucky Bastard (2009)

From Everett Lewis, the acclaimed writer-director of the art-house hits Luster and The Natural History of Parking Lots, comes an arousing and dark-edged story of a passionate affair set amidst the backroom bars, dark alleys and sordid hotel rooms of modern-day Los Angeles – a city where even if you're lucky enough to have it all, it doesn't mean you know exactly what you want.

Rusty (Patrick Tatten, The Soloist) is a successful architect with to-die-for pecs, bulging biceps and a killer smile. When his stodgy boyfriend leaves town, Rusty has a chance encounter with a handsome though seedy drifter, Denny (Dale Dymkoski, TV's Law and Order: SVU). Blinded by Denny's good looks, vulnerability and hustler charm, Rusty begins an intense, steamy relationship ruled by long-dormant passions. However, as Denny's control over Rusty strengthens, it soon becomes clear that Rusty – now on a seductive ride of sex and drugs – must decide what it is he truly wants.

Lucky Bastard is an edgy, sensual and salacious exploration of youthful indiscretion, sexual indulgence and the high stakes of attraction – a story that rings true to anyone who's ever fallen for the wrong guy for all the right reasons.

Lucky Bastard will be released on DVD on 22nd February 2010 by Bounty Films and distributed in the UK by Eureka Entertainment at the RRP of £14.99. The disc will have the following extra features:

  • Deleted scenes;
  • Commentary with the Director and Director of Photography.
