Twin Peaks Series 2 and Gold Box Edition on DVD in March

22 February 2010

It's been a long time coming, but Series Two of David Lynch's lovely surreal TV drama Twin Peaks is finally coming to UK DVD, together with the Twin Peaks Gold Box Edition featuiring all of the episodes and (we hope) a slew of extras.

Directed by the legendary David Lynch (The Elephant Man, Blue Velvet, Eraserhead, Wild at Heart), Twin Peaks, Season 2 picks up from the first season cliff-hanger that saw Agent Cooper (Kyle Maclachlan – Blue Velvet, Sex And The City) shot repeatedly as he closed in on the mystery surrounding the brutal murder of Laura Palmer (Sheryl Lee – Wild at Heart, One Tree Hill). But if you're the strangeness to abate, in Season 2 then you're out of luck, as Agent Cooper's investigations take him deeper and deeper into a murky otherworld and to the very brink of madness itself...

Twin Peaks originally aired between 1990 and 1991, going one of the most critically acclaimed and popular TV series around the globe. Taking root in popular culture, Lynch's visionary series regularly tops lists of the best TV shows ever and is as popular today as it was when it first aired, making its 20th anniversary year the perfect time to finally fulfil fans' wishes with this DVD release. Notable guest appearances in Season 2 include Heather Graham (Boogie Nights), Billy Zane (Titanic), David Duchovny (The X-Files) and, of course, David Lynch himself as a very peculiar and very deaf senior FBI agent.

Twin Peaks, Season 2 will be released on UK DVD on 22nd March 2010 by Universal Playback at the RRP of £49.99. At present we do not have details of any extra features.

In addition (and even more exciting, frankly) is the simultaneous release of the Twin Peaks Gold Box Edition, which will feature all 29 episodes of both seasons plus the US Network and international versions of Original Pilot, remastered picture from the original negative with newly-created 5.1 Audio, personally approved by David Lynch, as well as the original 2.0 Audio, and the following extras (all awaiting confirmation):

  • Deleted Scenes: Lost footage saved from the cutting room floor;
  • Exclusive feature-length documentary, "Secrets from Another Place," exploring the show's origins,production and impact - featuring brand-new interviews with the cast and crew and never-before-seen footage;
  • "A Slice of Lynch": David Lynch takes a strange and amusing look back with help from Kyle MacLachlan, Mädchen Amick and JohnWentworth;
  • "Return to Twin Peaks": Follow a group of devoted "Peaks Freaks" and cast members to the 2006 Twin Peaks Festival;
  • Interactive Map: The show's unforgettable locations and how to find them in real life;
  • The complete Log Lady Introductions;
  • Saturday Night Live: Kyle MacLachlan's monologue and the hilarious Twin Peaks comedy sketch featuring the SNL cast;
  • The "Falling" Music Video with Julee Cruise;
  • And Many Golden Nuggets: On-air promos, TV spots, production documents, rare photos and more.

Hopefully the transfers will match those of the already released US version of this set, which look rather lovely. The UK price will be £69.99.
