Made in Jamaica downloadable and on DVD in March

Described as "Excellent" (Jason Solomons, Mail on Sunday) and "A vivid picture of social upheaval and musical brilliance" (Elisa Bray, The Independent), Network Releasing has announced the DVD debut of Made in Jamaica. Featuring interviews and performances from artists including Bunny Wailer, Third World, Joseph Current, Gregory Isaacs, Lady Saw, Elephant Man and Bounty Killer, this is the first film to document the significance of both reggae and dancehall, Jamaica's blues. Wim Wenders, director of The Buena Vista Social Club describes the film as a "A true masterpiece. The ultimate reference point on reggae."

Jérôme Laperrousaz's documentary film Made in Jamaica is the story of how a small island nation of only three million people took their pain and misery and turned those emotions into songs that resonate around the world. Artists young throw light upon the island's unique culture with scintillating performances from participating artists.

Reggae music sprang into life in the 70s, it was the first time that a third world country had made its voice heard on such a large scale. The dancehall music movement, emerging from reggae and Jamaica's answer to Hip Hop continues to draw large crowds across the globe. Like its American cousin, dancehall's message is powerful and straightforward, with lyrics about sex, violence, and social issues.

The film starts with the murder of one of dancehall's leading stars, Bogle, which kicks off this raw, passionate and compelling documentary on the history and evolution of the reggae and dancehall music scene. Made in Jamaica is essential viewing for anyone interested in Jamaica's rich ands vibrant music culture.

Made in Jamaica will be released on DVD and as an iTunes download on 8th March 2010 by Network Releasing at the RRP of £15.99 (DVD) and £10.99 (iTunes download). The soundtrack album will also be available as a download for £9.99 or 79p per track.
