The Unloved on DVD in May

19 March 2010

The directorial debut from one of the UK's most talented acting stars Samantha Morton, The Unloved, a powerful film that gives an intimate child's eye view of life in a children's home, finally makes its DVD bow courtesy of ICA Films. Hailed as one of the foremost actresses of her generation, Morton has created a hard-hitting and thought-provoking piece of cinema that draws attention to the problems faced by children trapped in an often inept care system.

After a brutal beating from her controlling father, 11 year-old Lucy is thrown into Crop Row, a Nottingham children's home, where she is left with nothing except for the clothes on her back. She must learn to fend for herself in a hostile environment and turns to her older roommate Lauren, for support and protection. But when Lucy witnesses her friend being sexually abused by the home's manager she runs away and ends up at the home of her unstable mother.

The Unloved stars acclaimed actors Robert Carlyle (28 Weeks Later) and Susan Lynch (Elizabeth: The Golden Age) alongside the two young leads – Molly Windsor and Lauren Socha – who were cast through a series of open auditions held across Nottingham schools, drama groups and at The Television Workshop (where Morton herself attended aged 12). Initially screened terrestrially in 2009, to huge critical acclaim and followed by a successful theatrical release in February 2010, The Unloved wil be released for the first time to buy on DVD on 10 May 2010 from ICA at the RRP of £12.99. No extras have been listed.
