Missing (Sil jong) on DVD in January

2 December 2011

When film director Hong takes young starlet named Hyun-ah to the countryside to discuss a new role, they stop at a renowned farm whose owner, Pan-gon, is a recluse and social outcast with a very dark secret. Jealous of Hyun-ah's beauty and insulted by her disdainful treatment of him, Pan-gon ruthlessly strangles and imprisons Hyun-ah in the basement. Does he want to torture her, use her for sex, or is his agenda even darker? Meanwhile, Hyun-ah's sister becomes concerned over her disappearance and contacts the police. A trail of evidence points toward the farm, but will they make it in time to save Hyun-ah from the whims of the unhinged maniac, or will Pan-gon's vengeance be complete?

It may sound like a Korean take on a bog standard US torture porn scenario, but Twitch has suggested that Missing (Sil jong) has "all the ingredients of a Friday the 13th – not a Hostel – style gorefest but seems to be targeting an older, if not wiser, demographic." Intriguing. It's also based on a true story, that of a 70 year old fisherman who killed four woman between in Bosung in 2007, something the publicity is playing on, loudly proclaiming that these were events that "shook a nation!"

Missing (Sil jong) will be released on UK DVD on 31st January 2011 by Cine Asia at the RRP of £15.99. The only extra feature listed is a trailer gallery.
