One of the most acclaimed (and popular, if a poll of a friends is to be taken as at all representative) crime series in recent years was the compelling Scandinavian triumph The Killing / Forbrydelsen, which landed the BAFTA this year for Best International Television show, fending off competition from Mad Men and Martin Scorcese's Boardwalk Empire. Following its broadcast on BBC this autumn, The Killing II comes to UK DVD next month.
The emergency services receive a chilling phone call from a distraught man unable to find his wife. Reports later reveal that a woman was stabbed 21 times in a fatal attack, her body found at a National War memorial site in Central Copenhagen. In a video recorded before her murder, she is seen reading a message to the Danish people in which revenge is pledged for the Muslims killed in Afghanistan.
Spread over eleven days, the tightly told story of a complex, highly suspenseful criminal case shakes Denmark's government and military to their very core.
The brand new 10-part series is once again written by Søren Sveistrup and sees the return of the formidable and tenacious Sarah Lund, superbly played by Sofie GråbØl, who is recalled by Chief Inspector Lennart Brix to investigate a series of murders that will test her to her very limits.
The Killing II will be released on UK DVD as a 3-disc box set on 12th December 2011 from Entertainment One / Arrow at the RRP of £44.99.
No extra features have been detailed as yet.
Also available on 12th December will be a box set containing both series 1 and 2 of the series as an 8-disc set.
Extras will include a masterclass from lead actress Sofie Gråbøl and producer Piv Bernth.
RRP for this box set is £69.99. |
