Hollywoo on DVD in June

9 May 2012

No, that's not a typo.

Jeanne (Florence Foresti) is a French voice artist who dubs an American actress in a hit TV series. But one day, the American actress blows a fuse and announces she is retiring from acting for good. As a result, Jeanne's life comes crashing down. She realises there is only one thing she can do, and it is a very long shot. She goes to Los Angeles to find the American star and convince her to head back on set. She initially runs into trouble, but meets Farres (Jamel Debbouze), who opens doors for her onto the wonderful and sometimes wacky world of Hollywood.

And so reads the press release. An intriguing set-up, but I do tend to twitch a little when I see anything described as 'wacky'. The signs are not particularly good on any front. Of the few reviews I've been able to track down, The Guardian called it a "floppy, fun-free comedy," while Little White Lies rather more interestingly commented that it was "A scattershot mess by any normal benchmark, this perky, glossy French comedy still stands head and shoulders above its US counterpart: the Adam Sandler vehicle." We shall see.

Hollywoo will be released on UK DVD on 4th June 2012 by StudioCanal at the RRP of £17.99.

The only extra feature is a trailer, and you can see that below. Unfortunately we could only track down the French one for now...
