Studiocanal and Gaumont have announced the strictly limited edition release of Subway (1985), the iconic and irresistible crime thriller set on the Paris Métro, directed by Luc Besson (Nikita, The Fifth Element), starring Christopher Lambert (Highlander, Greystoke), Isabelle Adjani (Possession, The Driver), Jean-Hughes Anglade (Betty Blue, Nikita) and Jean Reno (Leon, Nikita).
The collectable SteelBook includes a 4K UHD presentation of the film, and comes with two additional Blu-ray discs and a collection of brand new extras.
After stealing sensitive documents from a mob boss, Fred (Christopher Lambert) takes refuge in the Paris Métro. Whilst hiding in this labyrinthine and surreal world beneath the city, Fred attempts to blackmail the mob boss’s wife, Héléna (Isabelle Adjani), into exchanging money for the documents. As Fred’s bond with Héléna deepens and as his life interweaves with the denizens living in the shadows, the police and the mob close in from all angles…
Besson’s second feature after The Last Battle, Subway is a vivid urban odyssey which helped to consolidate his growing reputation for unique, visually creative cinema. Nominated for a BAFTA for Best Foreign Language film, Subway thrust star Lambert into the spotlight, winning him a César Award for Best Actor. With a soundtrack from Éric Serra – who would become Besson’s regular collaborator - and dazzling cinematography by Carlo Varini (The Big Blue), this is a film that Eye For Film says showcases Besson’s “extraordinary visual talent”, that is “replete with images that will burn themselves into your brain”.

Subway will be released as a 3-disc 4K UHD Limited Edition by Studiocanal and Gaumont on 23 June 2025 at the pre-order price of £34.99.
